Teaching meaningful, creative music expression for artists of all kinds.
It is a privilege for me to work with people at all different points in their lives. You do not have to be a professional musician to benefit from lessons. My students are coders, nurses, speech therapists, yoga instructors, and PHD candidates, as well as those who have chosen music as their career.
My priority as a teacher is to facilitate a safe environment in which my students can work mindfully and creatively as they learn the tools needed to make meaningful progress in practice, performance, and collaboration.

STUDENT TESTIMONIALS
“I hadn’t written too many songs in quite a while. Estar suggested a new idea for how to start a composition that I’d never dreamt of. I ended up creating something quite unlike anything I’d heard emerge from myself before. When I showed her the first draft, she took me through new ways of hearing and playing it which immediately pulled away the first assumptions I’d been making about how the song “should” sound. I kept working on it. I’m still working on it. And now I’m writing many other songs! Estar listens well, pushes you outward, and truly encourages”
“I wanted to thank you for my songwriting lesson on Wednesday. I have a deep love for music, but I’ve never felt like I could trust myself to actually write it out and make it into something. The structure that you taught me in our short lesson has helped me immensely. For the past three days I’ve been watching YouTube videos of music analysis (everything from Katy perry to Chopin!) and I feel like I can finally see the structure that I was blind to before. It feels like learning how to read all over again! I also think that you are an exceptionally compassionate teacher, and great listener. I think those are two of the best qualities a music teacher can have. Anyway, thank you for opening this door in my life.”
“I have been taking voice and music lessons with Estar for about 3 years now. She is very knowledgeable, patient and helpful. I have learned a lot. I have also been very impressed with how well Estar has adapted her lessons to the remote teaching the pandemic requires. She uses a lot of IT tools to make it very smooth and, in fact, a really good alternative to having to travel for lessons or to ensure proper health safety measures.”
“I feel especially grateful to have Estar as my composition teacher - she brings such keen insight into improving all aspects of my songwriting. From setting a song’s lyrics to melody, shaping and honing that melodic line for greater impact, exploring a wider and more nuanced range of possibilities in harmonizing/reharmonizing the song, through a vast array of arrangement through performance considerations, she draws from her depth of experience and exceptional musicality to help my songwriting efforts develop in ways I wouldn’t have thought possible. As a gifted practicing musician, arranger and educator, she makes learning about songwriting inspiring and fun.”
“Estar is an incredible teacher - I initially reached out in hopes of taking a few voice lessons, and have now been meeting with Estar weekly for close to a year. She met me where I was at as far as skill level, and has offered support and inspiration along the way. I had reservations about taking voice lessons (and singing in general) and Estar made me feel comfortable, and confident in each lesson. She is also a great performer, musician, and composer. I believe Estar can help anyone looking to reach their next goal in music.”
“I’ve been taking classes with Estar for around 1.5 years - first in-person, then online. I was looking for a teacher as I was experiencing a mismatch between my love for music (particularly singing), and my low skill level. I wanted to bridge the gap. I found this and so much more in Estar. It is rare to find a person with this kind of authenticity and self-awareness that are actually crucial for the process of successful learning, especially as adults tend to bear some trauma in this area. Estar coached me through the toughest moments of insecurity by helping me focus on the right things, and is always inspiring me to be creative and grow. It brought results like a public performance and a songwriting experience, but these breakthroughs are highly beneficial for the other areas of my life as well. Students can be sure to be truly seen through real human contact and discover new depths within themselves.”
